Door Decor

I have been having fun painting wooden things lately.  The wooden things that you find at the craft stores are so easy to paint and you can really have fun with them and personalize however you want.  I have also recently been buying a lot of acrylic paints because they were so cheap and I needed a few for a Father's Day project.  The colors are just so pretty.  I couldn't help myself.

My newest project was, of course, found on Pinterest.  I don't really have a need for this item, but thought it was cute and needed something easy to work on.

Wooden Door Hanger
I started with a plain wooden "R" from Michael's.  I picked this letter because it is the first in my last name.  You could use any letter of your choosing.  Anyway, I picked a color and painted the entire letter Caribbean Blue.  It looks a bit streaky in this picture because the paint wasn't dry yet, but after it dried it looked great.

After the blue paint dried over night, I stenciled on my house numbers down the side of the "R".  I really wanted to use 3 inch wooden numbers, but strangely can not find them anywhere.  They have all kinds of letters in that size, but no numbers that I have found yet.  I had to settle for a stencil pack.  I thought that black paint would stand out the best, but when I was done it looked really plain.  I started messing around and put yellow dots all over the black numbers.  It kind of made it "pop" more.
I'm still not crazy about how this turned out, but it gave me something to work on.  The final picture with the sealant on it is below.
This letter has a hanger on the back, so it can be hung on your door, beside the door, or any place else you would like to put it.  I bet you could even do it with initials on it.

Cute Food

I've made some "cute" food from Pinterest in the past.  Here are a few examples:

Mater Cupcakes

These were made for the little one's 3rd birthday, which was a Cars theme.  Not too hard to make and turned out pretty cute.

Rice Krispie Christmas Trees

The Christmas trees seemed like they would be simple, but they were probably the messiest and stickiest things I have ever made.  You have to make rice krispie treats and add green food coloring while you're making them.  A LOT of green food coloring! Otherwise you have mint colored trees.  I went through like 3 bottles of green food coloring to make one batch of these.  You then mold them by hand into tree shaped cones and add large sprinkles for ornaments.  The base of the trees are Reese's Miniatures.  I will never make these again.  Too much work and they weren't even that good.

Deviled Egg Chicks

OK, so these look cute, but like the Krispie Trees, they were just not worth the trouble.  As you can see in the picture, I gave up after half of the eggs were done.  I couldn't stand to do any more.  They are also hard to eat when they are basically whole stuffed eggs.  Halves are much better.

Well, that is a few of the "cute" foods that I have made.  Crafting foods just isn't that fun.  It just gets eaten.  No one really gets to enjoy the cuteness of it.  They just stuff it into their mouth like anything else and that's that.  Luckily I'm the weirdo that takes pictures of the food she makes.

Owl Diaper Cake

This is an owl diaper cake I made for a friend's recent baby shower.  She is a big fan of owls and this seemed perfect.  Saw it on Pinterest and followed the link to an Etsy page selling them for $35.  Now, I hadn't made a diaper cake before, but I was sure I could make one for a lot less than $35.

Items:
Diapers  $6.00
Ribbon  $1.00
Fake Flowers  $2.00
Baby Blanket  $5.00(on clearance)
Baby Bib  $3.00(on clearance)
Baby Hat $3.00(on clearance)
TOTAL: $20.00
This total could be even cheaper if you use cheaper items, but I thought this was pretty cheap already.

I made the whole thing in less than an hour and there was no painting or gluing or any of the messy stuff.  Maybe one of these days I'll know somebody else having a baby and make another one for this blog.

Why Oh Why?

I'm bored and I have started making things that I find on Pinterest.  That is pretty much what this is all about.  Instead of just making the stuff, I'm going one step ahead and posting about it.  The first few things have already been made or at least been started, but as I stat new projects I will show the progress step by step.
